It's almost the end of January so how about a recap on 2025?
As I'm sitting here in my living room trying to stay warm (looking at you crazy ice storm that just narrowly avoided us), I thought why not start 2026 off with a recap of 2025.
Before reminiscing on the past, I need to talk about current events and acknowledge that times are rough right now to say the absolute least. Horrible atrocities are happening in the country I love so dearly and it breaks my heart knowing that innocent people's lives are being destroyed and ripped apart while politicians do nothing to correct course. I could go on and rant and scream and kick my feet, but I've done enough of that to make myself hoarse. So instead I'm going to talk about hope and love and peace and joy as cheesy as that sounds. I'm going to talk about how proud I am of communities banning together and fighting for one in another. I'm going to talk about the optimism I feel when I see people uniting as one voice against tyranny. I'm going to talk about the strength, hope, and so much damn courage that it makes me want to cry. And because they are so strong, I can be strong too.
So I will do my part and say my peace and try and make this very tiny corner of the internet a positive place to be where you and I can both escape, if only just for a moment, into a world of goofy stories and delicious meals. All that being said, here's my 2025 recap:
January
Went to Alabama to meet our newest niece who was born December 2024. She is so stinking cute and I love her to bits.
It snowed (ironically during the same week it snowed this year)
February
Went back to Alabama to watch my parent’s dog while they were on an Alaskan cruise for their 35th wedding anniversary.
Celebrated Justin’s 34th birthday with our friends who all have the same birthday
March
Went to Hilton Head, South Carolina for a childhood friend’s absolutely gorgeous wedding.
Saw Beetlejuice Beetlejuice the Musical the Musical- highly recommend; an absolute hoot!
Celebrated my 33rd birthday
April
Finally got the lawn equipment and tools organized in the garage
FINALLY started playing Baldur's Gate 3. I've been taking it really slow- a few hours here and there, but I'm having so much fun and I absolutely love my character, Alqwyn- she's a half elf with draconic lineage and a sorcerer class for those wanting to know.
Celebrated my cousin in-law and her husband’s marriage in an absolute MONSOON of a rain storm.
May
Went to Maryland to visit my best friend from college, Emily and her husband. We had so much fun exploring Annapolis and Baltimore. And yes I did eat my weight in crab while I was there. We even found gluten free crab cakes for Justin!
June
Saw two awesome concerts: Ninja Sex Party and the mother fucking princess Avril Lavigne with Simple Plan and We the Kings
Got my DIY shelving project done that I'd been working on for two months. It's my biggest DIY project to date and I am still so beyond proud of myself.
Drove across the state to celebrate my sweet friend from grad school, Ashley’s baby shower.
July
Got breakfast and caught up with my friend from college, Adam on his move up to New Jersey
Saw another concert- Ghost this time and they were absolutely incredible and ended up being in some of my top things on Spotify wrapped.
Went to the first meeting of my neighborhood book club- having so much fun with these ladies
August
Spent time with friends thrifting and eating good food
September
Celebrated our 4 year wedding anniversary (and 10 years together!) at Carolina Beach
My mom, sister, and nieces came to visit!
October
Went to a work conference and caught up with old friends and colleagues. Also got to meet a celebrity at the NASCAR Hall of Fame
Participated in not one, but two North Carolina State Fair competitions- didn’t win, but I learned a lot for the future
Went to a great Halloween party and froze my tush off passing out candy on the actual day
November
Celebrated Thanksgiving in South Carolina with the in-laws and we met Justin's best friend's baby
December
Finally experienced the Angus Barn at Christmas after almost a decade of living in Raleigh
One of best friends and I finally decided to actually write a book we’ve been talking about forever
Drove 12 hours to Alabama to see my family for Christmas, then another 6 to South Carolina to do Christmas with the in-laws, and then back home to rest for New Years.
So that was 2025. Hopefully 2026 is even better.
